The Magnificent Second Highest Plateau In The World: Here in Pakistan

 

Pakistan is truly a God gifted land when it comes to natural beauty. It is full of evergreen fields and meadows, magical lakes, high snow-capped mountains, and gushing waterfalls.

Among Pakistan’s long list of beautiful places, is Deosai Plains. Located in Skardu, Gilgit-Batiltan, it is the second-highest plateau in the world, and home to unique animals as well as flora and fauna that don’t exist anywhere else around the globe.

So, discover this breath-taking beauty that is bound to cast a magical spell on you.

1. Deep inside, you’ll find tranquility, and serenity

If one is in search of solitude, and peace, Deosai is the place to go. There is a deafening silence in this place, that one gets lost into a world of their own.

2. The sky and stars above are as enchanting as the land below

The word Deosai literally means ‘The Land of the Giants’ and consumes of numerous streams, sweeps of wildflower, and an abundance of a variety of wildlife.

3. The heart of Deosai: Sheosar Lake

One of the highest lakes in the world, pictures or words do not do justice to its scenery. The lake is Deosai’s heart- in all its resplendence and grandeur, it is a heavenly sight to behold.

4. View of Nanga Parbat from the lake

If the weather is clear, a killer view Nanga Parbat (the mountain) can be seen easily from Deosai’s Sheosar Lake. A reflection of the mountain also dissolves in the crystal clear blue water. A visitor’s heart skips a beat the very firs time they stand in front of this magnificence.

5. Breathtakingly beautiful even when the plains are covered in snow

The weather at Deosai Plains can be unpredictable. Sometimes it might start snowing in summers while the sun may shine brightly on the same day.

6. Oh the variety of flowers blossoming in spring

As mentioned, the unique variety of wild flora and fauna that blossom here in Spring are hardly found anywhere else in the world. An interesting fact to note though- there isn’t a single tree on the plateau.

7. Deosai Plains are a natural habitat for the rare Himalayan Brown bears

Once near extinction, the National Park was established solely to protect the wildlife and survival of these brown bears. Apart from these animals, the plains are home to the red fox, golden marmot, the snow leopard, and over a hundred different species of resident and migratory birds.

8. When the sunsets in the valley

You cross Deosai Plains towards Chilam village, and where ever you go, such hauntingly beautiful sights await you. It is worth the arduous journey you’ll undertake.
