Respected and renowned humanitarian, social activist and the man behind the world’s  biggest ambulance network, Abdul Sattar Edhi has recently passed away after a long battle for kidney failure. His ascetic life style and commitment with unfortunate people of Pakistan have earned him admiration of people globally.

Many people dignitaries and brands remembered the name of edhi, in their own unique ways, even prime minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz sharif said at edhi’s death “we have lost a compassionate and best servant for unfortunate people or especially for orphanage”.

There are calls for making July 8th the national charity day, in memory of Edhi and his magnanimous spirit of giving back to the people. He lived life as none; he defined humanity in a way people can only dream of, he optimizes simplicity like it belong to him, he explained humility as if the word was coined for him, he handles diversity as if only understood its true meaning, he depicted tolerance to a level almost none could, he meant for people as all relations culminated in him, for him. He motivated, he inspired, he trained, he taught, he role modeled humanity.

 

 

Abdul Sattar Edhi was born in 1928 at 1st January. Un-pleasantly he passed away in 8 July 2016. He was a great Pakistani compassionate person and humanitarian who founded the “Edhi foundation” which runs hospitals, homeless shelter for very poor persons, especially for orphanage and made rehab centers to resolve the problems of drug associated persons.

He was born in Gujarat, British India. Later on he moved in Karachi to set up a free of cost dispensary for Karachi’s lowest income habitants. Edhi expended his charitable activities in 1957 when an Asian flu quickly spread and swept the whole city. Edhi made his first ambulance in the same year. Later on he expanded this network with the help of his very cooperative wife bilquis Edhi. He is a very well-known person who made 1800 minivan ambulances and expanded backed privately his donations his Edhi Foundation, he considered as “Angel of mercy” he might be known as world’s great living humanitarian.

His personal life was also ideal for his followers. He was married with a nurse who was working with him in his dispensary. Bulquis run free maternity home at the headquarters of Karachi and organizes the adoption of abandoned babies including those born out wedlock. Edhi was known as ascetic person who wears two pieces of clothes by his salary, even never taking a salary his organization and living in an apartment next to his organization’s office.
