Overcoming depression and anxiety with Islam

Depression and anxiety are getting common among the individuals around the world as they are facing the race towards education and increase facilities in life. The fact is that there is nothing to be ashamed of what you have as you notice many people don’t face sadness and depression where they have fewer facilities of life?

Islam is a complete religion and provides the solution towards every single problem and for those who are facing depression and anxiety, there is hope in Islam to overcome debilitating symptoms. Islam provides solution towards depression, although prayers are important and when we feel depressed we should need to strengthen our belief in Allah and recite Surat un Nas as it is mostly a prayer for protection from the whispering of Shaitan.

In Holy Quran Almighty Allah says;

“So when you have finished your duties, then stand up for worship and turn your hopes to Him.” – [Qur’an: Chapter 94, Verses 7-8]

Allah is asking the person to perform his duty and worship Him instead of thinking about troubles and we need to strengthen our belief in Allah who can solve them.

Tolerance is the one that requires performing our duty in times of sadness and depression as tolerance means you are accepting what is outside our control ‘Sabr and Shukar‘ are the Arabic words for tolerance and gratefulness.

Many of us become depressed as our body never gets enough nutrients and such an imbalance affects our whole being and Allah command us to eat wholesome foods produced naturally from the earth.

Allah said:

O you who believe, eat from the wholesome things which We have provided for you and be grateful to Allah if it is Him that you worship.

Surat al-Baqarah 2:172

In life, we often disappointed when we experience failure or loss but our faith in Allah’s infinite wisdom will ensure and focused us towards goal. We must return to Quran, the greatest remembrance, that our hearts will find rest and assurance.

Allah said:

No doubt, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.

Surat al-Ra’d 13:28

Overcoming Depression is an often difficult task but all things are possible with Allah and we need to do effort as everybody faces different circumstances and Success comes from Allah and Allah knows best.
